Welcome to fansubs.ca

Updated: Feb. 23/2011

Time for an update.

Case and Label Project

The case and label project has been revived due to the assistance of 'ChibiBoi'.
(Also known as my first customer of 2010 [3 tapes!] and 2011 [4 tapes!])
Woohoo! I'm not obsolete! ^_-

BTW, yes, this means ChibiBoi's letter arrived in the snail mail on TU this week. ^_-

The first 3 volumes of Sailor Stars now have labels and cases available. We hope to eventually have the whole season up.

'ChibiBoi' has also sent me label designs for the 3 Sailor Moon Movies which I'll be looking through and making matching cases for. Sorry about the delay on these, I got a bit stumped on how to design the cases to look right next to the other cases. I'll eventually get these done as well so keep watching here for more info.

How to order tapes

To place an order please contact me (preferabley by AIM ^_-) for my current info sheet. Available tapes will be what you see on my case and label page. But if there is something you remember me having that's not on there I might have it so go ahead and ask and I'll check the collection. I still haven't gotten around to assembling a full chart of offerings.

Exchange Rate

For any orders placed between now and Mar. 7/2011 the price in U.S.$ is the same as the price in CDN$. If you read this after that date please AIM me for the current exchange rate if not paying in CDN$.

Internet Stability

My internet has been much more stable since spring when Shaw sent out a technician to change all the connectors on the cable from the lane to inside the building. Thus my availability on AIM and the connection of this web server has been improved. (Yes, both fansubs.ca and moonie.ca are still served by an NT server that I run on my home internet)

Equipment

Due to all 3 of my AG-1980 VCRs needing repairs of some sort I have gone through my equipment and picked out the best working VCRs for duplicating tapes.

Currently my play deck is one of my Panasonic PV-S8670s and the record deck is a barely used Panasonic NV-HV60. The NV-HV60 is the most recently purchased VCR I have.

I'll only be offereing NTSC (North America/Japan) format tapes from here on in as I no longer have the economies of scale to bring back PAL (Europe/Australia) format conversion capability.

So the end result is that I do have in good working order a SVHS deck to play tapes and a VHS machine to record them.

As for taking a SVHS machine in for repair I'm waiting until I clear all my spring bills. (Property tax, alarm, house insurance, etc.) Once that's clear and I've got a better picture of how much money is left over I plan to take a AG-1980 in for repairs. This is all dependant on how money falls together of course. In 2010 I just didn't have the extra cash, we'll see how 2011 goes. I miss the days when fansubs.ca was 'self financing' and I didn't have to put stuff off because of my own money limitations.

Contact

AIM (AOL Instant messanger): ve4gap
Note if you plan to contact me by AIM leave your AIM window open and your computer on and connected to the internet so you'll actually be reachable at whatever time I next get to the computer. ^_- I always leave it running so if you for some reason do see me offline either my internet is temporarily out or I'm installing software or replacing something on the computer and I'll be back.

Again AIM is the absolute _best_ way to communicate with me. If you don't have AIM you can download a current version from the AOL website or if you perfer an older less fancy version you can download version 5.0.2938 from me. A thrid option is to use Pidgin which is a universal chat client compatable with AIM amoungst others.

At this time I do not use MSN Messanger, nor do I have any immediate plans to. ^_-

Phone: 204-997-4536
It's OK to call this number any time of the day or night 24/7. You are most likely to get me "live" between midnight and 2 AM (central time) most days or during the afternnon or evening on Fridays. When I am at work or asleep you'll get the voicemail. However since I don't return long distance phone calls those of you who are not local to the Winnipeg calling area are best to either leave an online contact method in the voicemail or to try and reach me live. Although this is a cell phone (unlimited airtime 24/7) text messaging is blocked so you can't reach me by text. I'm not ignoring you, just texts don't reach me to begin with. ^_-

E-mail: glenap@moonie.ca
Again not the most effective way to contact me because you'll be competing with gobs and gobs of SPAM, reading will be delayed by my dread of said SPAM, and responding will be delayed by me being too damn tired by the time I'm done deleting all the SPAM. BTW, did I mention to nuke Nigeria. -_-

Snail Mail
My 'new' P.O. Box since mid-Dec. 2007:

Glen A. Pearce
P.O. Box 2225
Station Main
Winnipeg, MB
R3C 3R5
Canada

Just a reminder the old P.O. Box at the Nairn RPO is gone due to the RPO closing February 29, 2008. The outlet number (and thus box number) had been re-assigned to a new RPO operator (so somebody else may have since rented that box number). It's been long enough that Canada Post has actually retired the old postal code and given the new RPO operator a new postal code.

I have confirmation that Canada Post has leased back the space for the retail operation at Station Main from the new building owners (Winnipeg Police) so my 'new' address will be staying put for the forseeable future even though Canada Post is moving their sorting plant to a new facility. Unlike the RPO I dealt with before Station Main is operated by Canada Post it's self rather than a franchise operator.

DVD?

If DVD offerings do appear here in future they will probably be a limited selection and not my full "catalog". Group Vireli did do one series by DVD so once I've had a chance to quality check my discs, determine the best software to use and work out other details if everything is good I'll try that series as a test baloon as it would be straight copying, no capturing or authoring to do.

So if there is something you want go ahead and get the tape. Ironically it's the limited demand for VHS that makes me doubt how worthwhile it is to put the resources into any kind of physical media in the age of Bit Torrent. (Also distribution no longer throws off the cash flow to pay for it's own gear so I'm limited by my own funds. ^_-)

Other plans

I plan to over time develop this page not only for the purpose of selling tapes but also will put up some interesting pictures or stories from the "glory days" of fansubs by mail. ^_-

I have gathered some of my old "page toppers" (typically a cartoon made from an amine screen grab or occasionally fanart that I've been sent) that I'll be making a page of at some point. As well I found some photos from local anime club events before they became commercialized like they have in more recent years.

The local/regional anime scene

I no longer frequently attend any of the local anime clubs but I am putting up these links to help people in finding them.

Winnipeg Anime Club which now meets at the club president's house again since Fragmax closed. You'll have to E-mail their club president for the address and directions.

University of Manitoba Anime Club. (Anyone know what happened to their web site?)

JAAW (Japanese Anime Association of Winnipeg) which meets at the University of Winnipeg.

Once every year or two I also get to the University of North Dakota Anime Society so if you are a regular at that club drop me a line to see if I'm comming down anytime soon.

Online resources

Since a lot of you have historically came to me for Sailor Moon fansubs and it was the show that originally got me into anime probably one of the most pertinent web sites now is:

Sailor Moon Center

They have a good assortment of torrents and direct downloads for various Sailor Moon episodes both subtitled and dubbed. As far as I know they are currently the best source for Sailor Moon downloads

For those seeking other anime I could recommend:

Animesuki
Baka BT (Previously Box Torrents now under management of the old tech crew.)

In closing

Hopefully I should develop this site a bit more in the months/years to come. Thank you to all who made my web site a success over the years. Also thanks to those 'old timers' who dropped me an AIM message recently. Gotta Book It!

Signed:
That stuborn old VHS distro that won't go away. ^_-
